Lived 201.4–192.9 million years ago, in the Hettangian to Sinemurian stages of the Early Jurassic.Below: the genera most often found in the same fossil collections, on the same time scale.
Top: the whole age of dinosaurs, 251.9–66 million years ago; the outlined part is enlarged below. Each bar spans the ICS stages its well-dated fossil records fall in.
Lufengosaurus lived 201.4–192.9 million years ago, during the Hettangian to Sinemurian stages of the Early Jurassic. The Paleobiology Database lists 27 fossil records for it from 1 country (China) — the 46th most of the 99 genera on this site.
Most of what is known comes from one rock unit: 96% of its records are from the Lufeng Formation.
Every record is from China; Yunnan alone has 26 of them.
Sinosaurus appears in 127% of the collections that hold Lufengosaurus; Yunnanosaurus in 107%.
Its stage range spans about 8.5 million years (the 71st longest of 99); it is the 9th best-recorded of the 19 sauropodomorphs here.
